The 2nd Asia-Pacific edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit took place in Hong Kong on 12-13th November 2012. Discussions centred on some of the major ethical & ecological issues facing the Asian cosmetics industry; topics over the 2-day summit included alternatives to animal testing methods, green ingredients, sustainable packaging, potential of Halal cosmetics, Traditional Chinese Medicine in cosmetics, and marketing organic skincare products. A major outcome of the summit is that the Asian cosmetics industry needs to raise the bar for sustainability. Although ethical and ecological issues are becoming important, many aspects are lagging behind other regions. Raising consumer awareness of green issues, as well as sustainable packaging solutions and ethical sourcing were highlighted as areas for development. The previous North American edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit took place in New York on 17-19th May 2012. The North American summit brought together over 180 executives from the cosmetics industry to discuss key sustainability issues.
